The Old Shop, Gracehill EHOD 2024

About

Call at The Old Village Shop and hear about Gracehill Trust's ongoing restoration of this key settlement building and the historic postal links to the United States.

The revitalised Old Post Office now serves as a community hub, hosting local residents' gatherings and craft fairs. The addition of holiday accommodation on the upper floor generates income to support the project's economic sustainability. Visitors can explore the well-preserved interior features, including original shelving, counters, and the unusual attic hoist wheel. An inscribed slate with the name of Henry Kerr, who repaired the roof in 1835, was uncovered during restoration and serves as a reminder that the history of care and maintenance of the building continues down the generations.
