About
Ballymena Town Hall dominates the skyline from the southern approaches of the town.
The present Town Hall was constructed between 1924-1928, replacing an earlier town hall which had been destroyed by fire in 1919.
To celebrate the centenary of the laying of the foundation stone in July 1924 by HRH The Duke of York (later King George VI) residents and visitors are invited to join museum staff to explore the civic areas of this Grade II listed building.
During the tour you will discover that there has been a building on this site since 1684 when the Adair Family (the local landowners) build a market house at the historic 'Four Corners' of the fledging village of Ballymena.
The new Town Hall cost £35,000, a huge investment in the 1920s, and when completed it was described as a 'massive and well-proportioned building' with the interior being 'decorated in a most gorgeous manner'. You are welcome to join the tour to explore this beautiful building.
Also included is a 'Behind the Scenes' tour of Mid-Antrim Museum's Collection Store which will allow attendees the opportunity to examine some of the museum's 8,000 artefacts.
