Swifts Forge

Local artist blacksmith Aaron Leach runs Swifts Forge in Islandmagee and has over 10 years professional experience creating contemporary and traditional forged ironwork in this authentic blacksmith shop, which is complete with old implements and machinery.

Aaron offers a range of classes including:
2 hour evening classes - ideal for taster sessions and personal projects; Half days making fire accessories - chose to make pokers, takes, log turners etc; 3/4 days making garden trowels; and full day classes including axe or hatchet making, knife making and creative classes including all materials and sharpening lessons. You can even head along with your own project or choose items to make there!

All participants must be 14+ and accompanied until 16. Forge participants are required to wear jeans, cotton clothing and leather/tough boots that your jeans will go over. No rings, watches or bracelets to be worn. PPE provided.

Currently Aaron can have 10 people watch or 4 people take part in blacksmithing experiences. Blacksmithing vouchers are available to purchase. You can book via Airbnb experiences or directly via email or telephone.

Swifts Forge also offers a special knife blacksmithing class accompanied by cheese, whiskey and wheaten. Each November there are also Christmas decoration making classes with mulled wine and mince pies.

Apart from lessons, Aaron carries out commissions and specialises in sculpture, Japanese steel knives, Celtic and Norse based ironwork and even sword style letter openers!

Swifts Forge is a popular stop on the Islandmagee Arts Trail, which is run each August by Islandmagee Originals.
