About

Lighthouse Yarns is nestled within the hub of the beautiful Victorian seaside town of Whitehead. With our range of fine yarns, we're an emporium of woolly loveliness sure to satisfy your creative yearnings and have been nominated as best local independent yarn shop in Ireland.

Described by customers as a 'treasure trove of delights', you'll love our rustic charm. We've a considered collection of fine yarns from designer led fibre companies, local knitwear designers and local indie dyers and makers. We stock Stolen Stitches by Carol Feller, Ard-Thir by Kate Davies Designs, Donegal Studio, Sublime, Sirdar, Erika Knight, Scheepjes, Fyberspates and Skein Queen to name but a few. Beautiful Notions include Knitpro needles, Clover and Soak.

We also stock a choice of hand crafted art and giftware so you can guarantee you'll never leave empty handed. Local maker Heather Burgess from Ballycarry, of Ragbutton fame, crafts beautiful project bags, sewing accessories and acclaimed local wood turner, Gordon from Ballyclare turns beautiful crafted yarn bowls, wool butlers, spinning tops and knitting noddies made from foraged wood.

Our staff, Louise and Sarah have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the fibre field and are always happy to help you with your projects and yarn choices, offering personal service that only a small independent, specialty shop can provide.

Lighthouse Yarns also host a growing number of classes and workshops suitable for beginners and intermediate knitters and crocheters as well as spinning, weaving and felting. We have friendly weekly craft and natter groups each Friday (knit) and Saturday (crochet) morning if you are around the town.

If you fancy some lovely coffee and cake or indeed a deli lunch just pop next door to the award winning, The Bank House. Or in summer sit in their garden with its willow man and cart being pulled by a beautiful horse, whilst crocheting and knitting and watching the world go by – sheer bliss!!
