Glenarm Castle

The Walled Garden situated in the grounds of Glenarm Castle is one of Ireland’s oldest walled gardens dating from the 18th century. Glenarm Castle is the ancestral home of the McDonnells, Earls of Antrim. This hidden gem is open to visitors from Easter to end of September. The garden hosts many events throughout the season.

Details available on the website www.glenarmcastle.com.

Since opening to the public in 2005 the garden continues to evolve as a centre of horticultural excellence with imaginative herbaceous borders, water features, fruit and vegetable gardens and display of flowers which burst with colour from spring to autumn. From the mount at the top of the garden you have a great view of the Castle, sea and the estate beyond.

The 19th century mushroom house, now Converted into a charming tea room and gift shop, is open to visitors for delicious light lunches and homemade cream teas.

Glenarm Castle Walled Garden, in its incomparable setting by the sea, will delight all who come to visit with its charm and horticultural spectacle.

Glenarm Castle is the home of Viscount and Viscountess Dunluce and their family. The present castle has been in the McDonnell family since it was first built in 1636. The McDonnells have been in Glenarm for nearly 600 years and the Estate has been in the family for 400 years. In the house you will see superb examples of Irish furniture as well as portraits of family members from the early 17th Century through to the present day. Before taking up full time residence at Glenarm the family lived most notably at Dunluce Castle. The castle is occasionally open to the public, and welcomes group visits.

Glenarm Castle’s charming Tea Room, situated in the old Mushroom House, is open daily to all visitors. In the Tea Room you can relax and enjoy a delicious homemade cream tea or lunch overlooking the kitchen garden.

The Tea Room and Castle Shop is open throughout spring and summer, through to mid-October
