About

Settle in for your class with tutor Heather, an experienced goldsmith and designer. She has taught students of all abilities for more than 30 years and her classes are limited to four, allowing Heather to adjust the pace to each student's requirements and ensuring you get the most from the experience. You’ll also be able to admire Heather’s own works in progress, as well as completed artefacts.

Heather has designed the classes to help you discover the enjoyment to be had from making your own pieces. “I’ve found that the simple joy of creation is something uniquely satisfying for everyone that attends,” she says. “In our most popular silversmithing workshop, I show each guest the basics of jewellery-making. They’ll go on to create their own set of stacking rings, knot rings or pendant.” You’ll be provided with your own set of equipment, and during the class you’ll learn how to take silver sheet and wire and to cut, shape and solder it into your own unique piece of jewellery to take away. It makes a wonderful souvenir of your time in this beautiful place.

The relaxed and peaceful surroundings at Gobbins Craft are an important part of your experience. Heather’s workshop is set in a restored, stone-built building, a former pig house. It dates from the early 1830s and the former residents have given way to goldsmiths’ benches and a comprehensive range of metalworking equipment.

Just down the road from the workshop, you’ll find its namesake, the ‘Gobbins’ itself. It consists of a cliff-top walkway along precipitous paths, crossing gantries flung over plunging drops. It’s an adrenaline-rush of an outdoor experience. So it’s perfectly complemented by the relaxing and contemplative time you’ll spend at Gobbins Crafts!
