The Hillstown story began four generations ago. This 150-acre farmland is on a small settlement called Hillstown, between Randalstown and Ahoghill, where the Logan family have lived and worked for generations.
You might be surprised to find a thriving craft brewery tucked in behind the traditional farmhouse at Hillstown. A brewery among the cattle sheds is an unusual pairing, but it’s the heart of what Hillstown Brewery is all about – creating craft beer that pairs with food. Having diversified meat production to include one premium food, wagyu-style beef, Hillstown now produces two artisan products – beef and craft beer.
The link between the two products might not be immediately obvious! Why would a beef farmer need great volumes of beer? The answer is simple – to produce the finest quality wagyu-style beef, which is a popular Japanese style beef. You'll even see hens, llamas and cattle roaming about the fields.
It’s not all about the alcohol percentage or the volume consumed, but in the depth of flavour of a product that is lovingly handmade. Hillstown believe producing the craft beer by hand gives each beer a fuller flavour. The quality of their craft beer depends on the raw ingredients used to create it. They produce all their craft beers using recipes that are unique to Hillstown, and the result of many months of experimentation.
Hillstown Brewery Économusée was officially launched as the fifth Économusée in the UK on May 2017. It offers visitors an insight into the craft and heritage of farming and their unique diversification into the brewery business. Storyboards and infographics explain the history and process of the brewery business at Hillstown. Visitors are able to take a tour of brewery which is guaranteed to stimulate all five senses.
