Contemporary artist Audrey Kyle lives on a farm close to the Gobbins Cliffs in Islandmagee and finds her inspiration from living on a peninsula, the beauty of nature and the changing of the seasons. She enjoys expressing herself through the use of vibrant colour and works in a loose style.
Audrey became a full member of the Art Society of Ulster in 2014 and is also a member of Islandmagee Originals, a group who host the Islandmagee Art Trail at the end of August each year. She is also a member of the Économusée network promoting and sustaining traditional crafts in rural areas.
Her Art Experience Workshop is suitable for anyone wishing to have some fun with watercolour paints in a unique and relaxing environment. It lasts for 3 hours. You do not need any experience – that’s half the fun! Class numbers are limited to 4 so everyone receives individual attention. You will get time to experiment with the paints, learn some do’s and dont’s when working with watercolours and prepare your very own piece of artwork which will be mounted on completion. During the refreshment break you will meet many studio companions of the animal variety and soak up the atmosphere of this unique location, while hearing a little about the folklore surrounding the local area of which there are many involving smugglers, mermaids, cunning foxes, fairies and witches. All materials will be provided and aprons to protect clothing.
Alternatively if you are in the area and have less available time you can visit the studio, hear some folklore tales about the area and get a feel for this unique location and where its situated. You also get to try a simple wash with watercolour paint. Maximum numbers for this are 6.
Original art, prints and cards can be purchased at the studio along with other local craft makers and guest artists works.
