The Glensway Tavern has been serving the people of Martinstown and beyond since the 1830s. In 2018, Brendan McKay, its 14th owner, undertook a complete refurbishment, turning the Glensway into an attractive spacious restaurant seating 74 people and a lounge bar as well as a traditional Irish bar where live country and Irish music is played at weekends. Training courses, community meetings and family gatherings can also be hosted at the Glensway.
Whether you are in the mood for an Ulster Fry for breakfast or a more healthy cooked breakfast, you will always be guaranteed a tasty way to start your day. The filled sodas are definitely worth trying as the soda bread has been freshly made in the Glensway bakery where sourdough bread, potato bread and Shandon Stout wheaten bread are baked too.
Lunch-time favourites include homemade soups, sandwiches, burgers and lasagne not forgetting old faithfuls such as fish and chips. Round off your lunch with a speciality coffee or tea with their apple and blackberry crumble or one of their other homemade sweets,
In the evening, their head chef Damian Simpson will tempt you with the daily specials on the dinner menu as well as curries, Italian dishes, homemade pizzas and more traditional Irish dishes such as sirloin steak and Chicken Maryland. Vegetarian options are available too as well as gluten-free menu items. Where possible, food is sourced locally with quality fresh produce as the top priority at the Glensway Tavern. All the beef comes from their family farm which is located a few miles from the restaurant. The bar is well stocked with a wide selection of beers and spirits from Ireland and further afield.
Every good dinner ends with a dessert and the temptation is great at the Glensway. As well as a chocolate brownie, apple crumble or pavlova on the dessert menu, there are old favourites on offer such as jam and coconut sponge with custard but much tastier than the school dinner version.
