About

This award winning beach is located in Ballygally, 10km north of Larne town on the beautiful Causeway Coastal Route and is perfect for a short walk to blow the cobwebs away or to build sand castles with the kids or to even enjoy a quick swim!

It is approximately 300m long and is sandy with seaweed and boulders. There are great views in all directions: northwards up towards the Antrim coast and its dramatic headlands, eastwards across the sea to Scotland, southwards to distinctive Ballygally Head and westwards inland to landmark features such as Scawt Hill and Sallagh Braes.

The main access is via a sloped path that ends in a convenient level wooden platform. Only 100m further along, access is also possible via steps and at the other end, via steps from the Ballygally Castle hotel car park. A viewpoint with seating is located beside the footway close to the main entrance and is wheelchair accessible.

The beach is across the road from the main car park and a small shop sells refreshments and a wide variety of ice creams. Ballygally Castle Hotel is opposite the beach with the Halfway House Hotel located just 1km further north along the Coast Road (A2). There is also a small children's play park at the junction of Croft Road and Cairncastle Road. Toilets and baby changing facilities are located at the far end of the main car park.

This beach has been awarded the Seaside Award for achieving the required standard of bathing water quality and for its general cleanliness and provision of information and facilities. Bathing quality water standards can be found here: www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/bathing-water-quality
