Ballygally Beach – A Coastal Gem on the Causeway Coastal Route
Nestled just 10km north of Larne on the stunning Causeway Coastal Route, Ballygally Beach is a charming spot perfect for a refreshing seaside stroll, building sandcastles with the kids, or enjoying a brisk swim.
This sandy beach stretches approximately 300 metres and features a mix of seaweed and boulders, offering a natural, rugged beauty. Visitors are treated to panoramic views in every direction: gaze north along the dramatic Antrim coastline, east across the sea to Scotland, south towards the iconic Ballygally Head, and west inland to striking landmarks like Scawt Hill and Sallagh Braes.
Access is easy and convenient, with a sloped path leading to a level wooden platform at the main entrance. Additional access points include steps located 100m along the beach and steps from the Ballygally Castle Hotel car park at the far end. A scenic viewpoint with seating - fully wheelchair accessible - is located near the main entrance.
Just across the road from the beach, you'll find a car park, a shop offering refreshments and a wide range of ice creams, and Ballygally Castle Hotel. A short drive (1km) north along the Coast Road (A2) takes you to the Halfway House Hotel. Families will also enjoy the nearby children’s play park at the Croft Road and Cairncastle Road junction. Public toilets and baby-changing facilities are conveniently located at the far end of the car park.
Ballygally Beach is known for its excellent bathing water quality and overall cleanliness, with well-maintained amenities and clear visitor information. It’s a wonderful stop for a day out or a brief coastal escape.
